About the Ministry .
![]() |
Bay Area Chaplains meet the spiritual needs of both inmates and staff through a ministry that includes counseling, discipleship, and literature distribution. At the same time they facilitate other faiths within the guidelines established by law and the individual correctional facility. |
OUR MISSION
![]() |
Provide comprehensive pastoral ministry to all the inmates of the Martinez, Marsh Creek, and West County Detention Facilities. Provide other services to residents, staff, public officials, and the community that will enhance the overall ministry. Serve as a channel of the local church in fulfilling the
mandate of the Great Commission. |
Establish, coordinate, and oversee programs of worship, religious study, discipleship and follow-up of inmates and staff.
Facilitate other faiths in their ministry to inmates.
Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer ministry partners from the faith community to broaden and deepen the ministry to inmates in the facilities.
Perform or arrange for ministerial functions, when appropriate for residents, staff, officials, and their families.
The Chaplains at the Contra Costa County Detention Facilities offer your congregation a holiday outreach opportunity.
Share the love of God with spouses and children of the inmates through our Baskets of Blessings Thanksgiving program and Christmas Joy, the gift program for children. Delights for Deputies, allows the bakers in our communities an opportunity to bake cookies, sweet breads and pastries for the Chaplains to distribute to the staff in December.
1. Baskets of Blessings
Your congregation can assemble baskets of items that may be used for a Thanksgiving meal. This basket can include church literature and small items for the children. After telling the Chaplains how many families you would like to reach, contact information from the inmates will be forwarded to your contact person. You schedule your delivery dates to the families the week preceding Thanksgiving.

2. Delights for Deputies
Calling all bakers! You are needed to create scrumptious cookies, sweet bread, and pastries for our dedicated deputies and their support staff. All home baked (no store bought) goods will be brought to a central place on the first Sunday of December from 1pm-3pm. A team will assemble plates to be delivered by the following day.

3. Christmas Joy
Wives and children also do time when the husband and father are incarcerated. Brighten a child’s Christmas by participating in the Christmas Joy gift-giving program. Let the Chaplains know how many children your congregation would like to sponsor and the parent’s name, children’s gender and age will be provided. Your group would then purchase the gifts and set up a delivery date near Christmas.
